2010 Capitol Complex Master Plan Information
Updating the Master Plan for the Capitol Complex is an exciting opportunity to realize original visions and identify new goals. The West Capitol Terrace fulfilled a long-standing vision for an open, welcoming entrance to the Capitol from downtown Des Moines. On the other end of campus, a model “green” building is being constructed – something the original visionaries for the Capitol grounds never could have imagined.
The goal for the 2010 update was to create a master plan with a world-class vision by combining sustainable design principles and recognizing the historical significance of our buildings and grounds. We will work to make this a living document – not just a prescription. We have enjoyed working with many stakeholders and thank everyone who participated in this process, from the lawmakers and city planners, to neighborhood association members and private citizens who took time to share their thoughts. Together, we have developed a plan for a more efficient, sophisticated, accessible and sustainable Capitol Complex.
