Capitol Planning Commission
The Capitol Planning Commission was established by the Iowa Legislature to advise on future development of the Capitol Complex - its buildings, statues, fountains and monuments. The Commission meets quarterly and provides an annual report to the state legislature.
The Capitol Planning Commission is charged with:
- Advising on the location of statues, fountains and monuments, as well as the placement of any additional buildings on the Capitol grounds and their architecture and construction.
- In cooperation with the Department of Administrative Services, develop and implement a modernization program for the Capitol Complex.
- Annually report to the General Assembly its recommendations related to its duties.
The Commission has embraced the vision set forth in the Capitol Complex Master Plan: a Capitol Complex that exemplifies in setting and function the dignity it embodies in spirit and purpose.
