| The Department of Administrative Services is responsible for the acquisition
management, policies, operation, maintenance and repair, and
disposal of motor vehicles used for the transportation of State of Iowa employees in their official duties.
The Department of Administrative Services meets
the states short and long term needs for
vehicles by operating a centralized motor pool
for daily trip rentals, in addition to, assigning
vehicles to state agencies and institutions for
departmental use. State employees may access a
vehicle from the pool through an on-line reservation
system |
 |
| Comparisons of value show the centralized fleet is
a cost effective way to meet the needs of state agencies, with the
cost of operating these vehicles consistently averaging below twenty-one
cents a mile. |
 |
 |
The State Risk
Management Program provides insurance coverage,
claims processing, and an ongoing safety and
loss control program for drivers of state vehicles.
Periodic auctions of used state vehicles are
scheduled. Go to vehicle auctions to view more information.
